Senior quality manager, PepsiCo

Tell us a little bit about yourself and your background?

Originally from Kansas City, Mo. Grew up in Denver, Co. I obtained my B.S. in chemical engineering from Virginia Tech. My career has been in supply chain, most notably with PepsiCo for 10 years, in the Frito-Lay division. In the field, I’ve led production, technical, packing, processing, and quality teams in Virginia, North Carolina, and Washington state. Currently, I am working on a global innovation team.

Why did you decide to pursue your MBA?

Once I realized that my career would be focused on the leadership side of business, as opposed to the technical side, I knew that I wanted an MBA to further strengthen my business and leadership skills.

What made you choose MBA@Denver?

When I was looking at schools, I wanted to go to a school with a great online program, but one that I knew I could connect with long-term. DU made me feel the most comfortable, with the structure of the program and welcoming attitude of the advisors, staff, and students.

What has your experience been like collaborating with classmates in an online environment?

In all my classes, the interaction with other students has been phenomenal! Discussions in class, group work, and immersions have provided the opportunity to meet students and learn even more from their different experiences and perspectives. Even though we’ve mostly interacted virtually, there are many of us that know we will be friends for life! We’ve planned trips together, supported each other with networking opportunities, and even company or job referrals.

What advice do you have for others considering this degree?

Just do it! If you are taking two classes per quarter, try to book an immersion with an accelerated class. It may save you from having one to two quarters of three classes.

What was your favorite part of the immersion experience?

My favorite part of the immersion experience was meeting new people. Being able to deep dive into a specific topic, surrounded by people with various perspectives, makes the learning experience that much more enjoyable!
