Director of marketing, Jade Communications
Tell us a little bit about yourself and your background.
I am a scientist turned marketer, and I currently serve as the director of marketing at Jade, an internet and technology services provider in Southern Colorado. On a mission to end the digital divide in rural Colorado, my team and I have helped connect thousands of Coloradoans to high-speed broadband. I’m a native Coloradoan, and I enjoy running, skiing, and drinking espresso. I also compete internationally for Team USA in the duathlon.
Why did you choose MBA@Denver?
I started a marketing company in 2016 and had little knowledge on how to lead a team, build a brand, or even run a company. MBA@Denver’s immersions offered out-of-classroom experiences that transformed my perspective and solidified my leadership style. For example, MBA@Denver put me in the same room as Howard Schultz (former CEO of Starbucks), Guido Sciascia (CMO of Illy Coffee), Mark Cuban (owner of Dallas Mavs), and other marketing leaders. I learned so much just from just from 5-minute F2F conversations with these greats.
How has the program impacted your current work and prepared you to be a leader in your industry?
It’s simple: MBA@Denver gave me the confidence I needed to take a legacy brand and transform it into one of the most well-known brands in broadband. Jade now rivals most consumer brands in Southern Colorado.
What career successes did you see after graduating from MBA@Denver?
Upon graduation, I was recruited by Jade to help transform the brand, lead a much-needed cultural revolution, and boost the experiences of our subscribers. Because of my professors and learnings from MBA@Denver, my team and I have been able to push the limits of the Jade brand just passed where broadband companies are “supposed” to be. In 2020, our team earned the Calix Innovator of the Year Award in Marketing, and, in 2021, I was inducted into the broadband Marketing Hall of Fame.
How did this degree move you closer to your long-term career goals?
Through the immersion experiences like SxSW and the Trieste Immersion, I was able to learn from the best in industry on topics ranging from innovation to branding and even leadership. I’m thrilled that MBA@Denver equipped me to stand out as an industry leader.
What has been your experience with the MBA@Denver alumni network?
I keep in touch with many of my classmates and professors — I can always learn from them! I look forward to the alumni immersions.
