Tell us a little bit about yourself and your background.

I was born and raised in Venezuela and came to the US in 1988 without knowing the language. I was able to graduate from high school and, in 1995, I obtained my Associate in Science degree in computer information system analysis from Miami Dade Community College. I started working right after as a junior programmer for a manufacturing and distribution company, with the aspiration of continuing my education and obtaining my bachelor’s. But, as they say, life happened. I continued to grow my skills as a developer but always had the curiosity to do more than just being a developer.

In 2005 I made my first career pivot and started to be more customer facing, and learned more about how to lead teams. This led me to the decision of starting my bachelor’s in 2009, part time, from the University of Phoenix. I graduated in 2010 with a bachelor’s in computer science. I started leading teams and managing resources, which helped me grow my career; and, as I grew, I started getting more determined to get bigger and larger roles. I’ve been working in the telecommunications industry since 1999, and I have a strong reputation in the industry for leading teams and delivering complex projects.

Why did you choose MBA@Denver?

I am a full-time professional, a husband, and a dad of two boys, and the MBA@Denver program provided me with the flexibility I needed. The program was and is recognized as a top program in the U.S., which led me to choose it over attending the University of Colorado, or Colorado State University. Also, the MBA@Denver program recognized my work experience, and the program is tailored to professionals who look to achieve executive and C-level roles in organizations.

How has the program impacted your current work and prepared you to be a leader in your industry?

This program provided me with the tools to be a better strategic thinker and a leader with integrity. It provided the necessary business and financial knowledge to pursue other areas in the business world outside of delivery.

What career successes did you see after graduating from MBA@Denver?

Since I graduated in 2020, I’ve noticed that the leaders in my organization have recognized my improved leadership skills and my strategic approach to complex issues. This recognition opened the door to additional responsibilities and new opportunities.

How did this degree move you closer to your long-term career goals?

Without my MBA I wouldn’t be sitting in a strong company, thriving every day, and finding ways to grow my professional skills, and I wouldn’t have the skills to someday become a Senior Executive or a C-Level professional in an international company.

What has been your experience with the MBA@Denver alumni network?

I have connected with several alumni of the University of Denver and have been able to have conversations about industry challenges as well as everyday issues. I am looking forward to being a part of the alumni community and attending all the different events, such as alumni week.
